The history of the editions of St. Ambrose's works spans several centuries. Erasmus published them in four volumes in Basel in 1527.
Verdict: Erasmus invented this guy.
P.S. Hmmm.... Luther wrote the jew book in 1543. It all adds up.

Who found the manuscripts? Then dated them as old. Then wrote a book. Then lost the manuscript. But trust this guy, he wrote a book.
