So, everything this video describes as being a "1990's man" involves engaging in some sort of non-organic "pop culture" that was created by corporate marketing and advertising. And I mean everything, from media, to clothes, to technology. I lived in the 90s, and ignored all of that shit because I didn't need or even want to be defined by what I consumed. I read books, had a land line, rarely watched TV, and listened to my own vinyl records and audio cassettes that I carefully curated.
I thought all of the music pushed to the public on the radio was garbage, especially Nirvana and later Korn. I didn't let my kids watch TV during the day for the same reason unless they asked to watch something in particular. I told them to play outside, and if I were really indulgent, I'd buy them pogs now and then because they were cheap. I think we're all much better off today not letting "pop culture", that is, corporate media, define our personalities and identity back then.
