Yeah, dusting, in this context, was called "huffing" decades ago. The story mentions it. People huffed spray paint to get high. The even knew that gold spray paint had added chemicals to keep the gold color more shiny.

In my high school health class they showed us a picture of a cross section of a brain of some dude who died from his huffing addiction.

It was hollowed out from where his nose and throat were closest to the brain all. The way to the part that controlled involuntary functions like your heartbeat.
