Shit, man, last time I built a computer, the 9800 GTX was the most powerful graphics card on the market. Then they changed the naming conventions and I have no idea what’s what.
Funny. The day I got that gaming computer up and running and was able to play World of Warcraft at a million frames per second, I was prettty much done with computers. I had achieved all that Inset out to do. I stopped gaming entirely after that day.
This happens every single time I have to build a computer, since I do it so seldomly.
Luckily, we have so much processing and graphics power nowadays that it barely matters what one gets (as long as it's not (((intel))) ). Drive space is cheap, ram is cheap, motherboards are basically identical.
Life is much faster now compared to the 286 and 386 days.
Unfortunately, most want to be enslaved. Just look at the popularity of wage slavery, for one example. "Purchase the use of my mind and body and I'll be your monkey". Trends - "tell me what to wear/do/think". The outcomes are less beneficial, but offboarding the business of thinking and planning can save a lot of time and energy.

The AI chips in Gpus are for creating extra frames per second that are genuinely hallucinated in an effort to push performance metrics up high enough that the upgrade cycle continues because consumer grade tech is stagnant barring computers be put to a 60amp/220v outlet.

What they label "AI" is basically a bunch of specialized cores with very limited functionality but able to operate at higher speeds than a real processor. Intel has included it, a number of ARM processors include it, and now AMD has jumped in. Many of them only operate on 8-bit numbers but are able to perform trillions of operations per second. (I think the Ryzen AIs can do 40-50 TOPS.)
This can be used for something like a very limited LLM, but is more often used for things like visual recognition.

Have you tried the new AI Coka-Cola?
Goodyear tires, now with AI !
Nike, faster with AI.
Sheesh, even Jesus is more holy with AI.

Nothing beats CUDA at the moment, and won't for a very long while.
CUDA is King.
