Just as with nature, when resources are plentiful populations will go up.
I don't understand how people feel the population crisis is terminal. When the boomers die off and housing and jobs become more abundant (if that happens) then young couples will have no problem having kids.
Take away the stressors from a big family and the young will gladly procreate. All the shit going on today makes those same couples fearful for the future of any children. Just common sense.
