Everything is moving towards online software.
There are several reasons for this
1.) Piracy is nearly impossible
2.) Better billing metrics
3.) Easier to patch and upgrade when you don't have to consider multiple operating systems
4.) Control and Monitoring of business and personal information
5.) Forces people to be online, removes the ability to work independently
6.) Developers are now pajeet. Pajeets suck at client software.
7.) Security is easier when you don't have to worry about bugs nuking client machines
8.) Funds their data centers
Microsoft got into the chinese market by allowing them to pirate software, get them hooked, then turned their shit to SaaS. Google has always been SaaS and they can't really make inroads.
Both companies suck. Unfortunately, I know both companies are killing client software competitors. Most "open source" projects are primarily ran by Microsoft at this point.
Some people are speculating the assassination was to cover the news cycle with BS.
As a former PM that would be the only play that he could still be used for.
