I do understand that there are extant circumstances that may mean you have to completely cut someone off from your life. It would be very unfortunate for it to be someone as important as a parent, but if it comes down to there being no other way to mitigate the negative influence the person brings, then it may be what has to be done.

I agree. I doubt the employer is fishing for applicants to do the 90 minutes of work in an excel file because it's work that needs to be done, they're doing it because they already know the answer and know that it should take 90 minutes and if they are worth a single pay-check they better be able to do this simple task.
A 5 minute task would probably have been more ideal, but plausibly some things just can't be reduced down and simulated in such a small amount of time.
