If animals don't get caught in it while attempting to cross it then it hasn't really done it's job. Animals won't get a trip to the four seasons when attempting to steal free food from farmers and gardeners. If that makes me a bad person, too bad. My children being able to eat is more important than any animal.
Middle of the forest? You think your fence protects you from anything? Look at all the stuff outside of the fence, it's total chaos. Your soil is fucked up too.
I have an electric fence, it keeps the deer out and the cat keeps the rabbit/chipmunk/squirrel population down. Have you tried human hair clippings around the perimeter?
I think it helps keep them away, but it's the smell they don't like. My fence charger is old, and has an audible snap at every discharge so I think that helps a bit.

I like the effort, but fencing was needed for everything... one nibble and the animals know they found something tasty.

Next year they can rent a small gasoline rototiller for two hours cheaply, for soil, like most gardeners. Too bad you need to clean it spotless when you return them.
