it's a desiccant. It's the little package of brown paper in your box of new shoes that says do not eat on it.
It's in gatorade and all those other vanity drinks as well.
They spray fruit a vegetable crops with it. It's used on cheese to shorten the aging.

It heats up when it gets wet.
It's part calcium and part chlorine. Chlorine is toxic.

You are absolutely right. It's also in every fluid the body manufacturers, it maintains ph, transfers electrical impulses etc. The food grade cal chlor in food is what I use for my plants, just a way of making the cal easily diluted.
