In the sierra mountains, to scare buddies, I show them the presence of other coyotes by satying to friends : "do you want to hear the wolves? they are all around us. they will come to us if we howl out to them. Here... watch... OWWWOOOOOOOOOO!"... then after a decent delay... from one or more distances coyotes howl back and yip and howl.
