The goal defines the workout. If your goal is a triathlon, then less weight more reps might make sense. If your goal is to be successful at something while looking and feeling good, then more weight, more reps, more sex, more sleep, better nutrition, quality pharmaceuticals, and learning to reject retarded notions... will help you.
Bros a GREAT WAY to get back in is something I found from Arthur's Hall of Viking Manliness back in the day.
Super high rep with cardio, 5 days a week. Once you get that vril/chi highly oxygenated state going, you can keep it going.
Now, of course I'm maxing reps and weight and doing RPT AMRAP and totally killing myself to where I can't sleep, am moody and have to take a day off whether I like it or not, but fuck bros the pumps and oxygen high!!!
Alternate the stimulus to grow. More weight less reps targets your primary muscle fibres to build overall size, whereas more reps will fill the muscles out more by ecruiting the lesser used fibres. I prefer heavy weights, I get bored on high rep sets waiting for the pain to kick in.

Higher reps equal less chance of injury, better form.
Lower reps seem easier to record gains.
I'd focus on what you find comfortable. If you prefer sets of 6 reps you are more likely to stick with it etc.

Break and repeat.
