The other factor is that people have become less skilled in household care and observing nuance. They don't have time for it. You can change the prevalence of clover to grass by changing the cut height on your mower. Cutting low favors clover, cutting high favors grass. People who aren't willing to learn about lawn care before doing it would just cut their grass as short as possible trying to delay having to cut it again. This leads to clover dominating rather than being mixed in and looks bad. Then people find themselves resenting the clover instead of learning how to manage a lawn.

Modern man flocks to any product that they think will free them from having to know basic skills.

I used to do this and realized the short grass burns when you get a heat wave. I have a pretty good mix of clover and dandelion. I see narrowleaf plantain and purslane as well. Thankfully no crabgrass since i like walking barefoot.

I was going to write about how easy it is to harvest clover seeds for free from parks etc like I did a while back to seed dirt patches in my lawn when I looked for an example image to include AND DISCOVERED "RED" (PINK!!!!) CLOVER is a thing and impulse bought some seeds online lol

Clover is great. I actually want to replace my lawn with clover or ornamental peanut.

Dandelions are a superfood. Don't kill either of these plants.

My backyard is mostly clover. We get tons of bees back there parts of the year doing their thing.

I had a drunken high school teacher for Biology. He was great even though he was drunk most of the time (literally walking down the hallway with a hand on the lockers / walls and a cup of Irish coffee in the other). I still remember when he was talking about Dandelions. Something like, "My neighbors complain, but I think they are pretty and I just let them grow on my lawn." Great guy and excellent teacher.

My childhood home had a backyard absolutely packed with clover. Now I know why we never got weeds and the bees were frenly

I’ve had clients ask me if I could referral anyone who replaces lawns. They always want the stupid quintessential manicured green lawn bullshit. I tell them their clover and dandelion lawn is the healthiest and most beneficially natural version they can have.

My old house had a lawn that was untouched for years other than mowing. Clovers (they're edible, BTW) and dandelions (also edible) everywhere. All my neighbors paid people to come treat their lawns several times a year. My grass was still the greenest and theirs was dead and yellow most of the time.
