I killed my first meal today.

I grew up relatively country, but I've never had to personally kill to eat. I've always been able to get out of the killing part, but now I'm the man of the house. I recently got some chickens and today I slaughtered and butchered 4 of them. It was one of the best and worst moments of my life honestly. Showing my boys where food comes from is invaluable but I fucked up a bit and a few of the chickens suffered due to my inexperience. Next time they get the axe instead of the cleaver. My boys were with me the whole way, and we discussed it later. They loved it overall, but they were relatively solemn and respectful about the whole thing, but we did it all together. The younger one said he was on the verge of crying, and that actually made me proud. Life shouldn't be wasted and should be respected, but he held it in which made me even more proud with my Stoicism ideals.

Perhaps it's just me, but killing an animal feels like a sacred act and should be treated with a certain amount of respect. It was an amazing experience overall, and I am liking forward to moving up to bigger livestock this fall.

Just wanted to share as it was a noteworthy day for me. Hope everyone is doing well.

Yeah the first ones can be tough. I have done maybe 50 in the last 2 years.
Are you using cones? Use a cone and a strong backed knife. I use a gerber hunting/fleshing knife and the cone is attached to a sawhorse with a bucket under it.

Each chicken was tried and read its pronouncement of guilt and sentence of execution. Due process before meat processing.

We have a problem. We all share this same simulation.

As long as those of you who are too weak-willed to define your own morals continue to play pretend, and are thus continued to be manipulated by the controlling tribes, we are all drug down collectively by you religious simpletons like a boat anchor.

I strive to make the meaning of my participation in this simulation to be to find a way to either free your minds from the chains that bind you like caged animals, or alternatively find a method to which those of us who have freed our minds can sever the bonds that allow those of you who continue to believe in make-believe to hold us back.

The reason I ask is because this is a philosophical question about religion, it’s all going to be beliefs which have been talked and argued for thousands of years.

I think the base of it, is someone can be brutally honest with themselves and say I don’t know the answer to life. There might be a god there might not, and be okay with that.

I have a suspicion that it is the same kikes behind 'multiverse theory', 'string theory' before that, and basically every other non-physical misdirection that they try to dress up as a valid scientific theory.

Get a kill cone. It's a cone that the chicken goes in head first, the head and part of the neck sticks out the bottom. Once they're in the cone you pith them by putting the tip of your knife in their beak and push up through the brain, then cut the juggler vein and let bleed. Much more sanitary and humane. Congratulations on taking the first steps back to tradition.

Is this a paring knife between your fingers/hand? I cut the heads clean off. I might try something like this but I am thinking there is a greater liklihood to slip and cut myself. I will say it is easier if you cut closer to the skull.
Maybe I should try some of those electric pruners/loppers.

I usually use a pairing knife and my cone is on a tree, so I use the tree as a backstop for the head and pith. I like it because it cuts down on the bird convulsing.

I shared this with my nephews this summer. they had all seen the birds and spent time here with them, so they felt the connection of having lived with and taken care of the animals that that we then harvest.

I liken it to growing plants. it's an investment in time money and energy to process the animals we raise for food.

they felt a bit sad about it. normal to feel sad. we take lives to sustain our own. we're respectful and use everything we can, and make sure the animals don't suffer and live the best lives they can.

Its tough at first,gets easier as you learn
Still hurts my soul a little bit I think thats normal . Good for you that your sons have empathy . Teach them that its a good thing

Popping their necks is a clean fast way. It’s how my family usually did it growing up. It’s way worse the first time you slaughter a cow you knew as a calf
