you can eat a Seville (sour) Orange if you leave it long enough...

Me and the Missus bought a Seville Orange thinking all oranges were sweet i.e. we didn't read the label. As fate would have it the tree is our most successful orange tree. It's a lovely tree and its fruit look terrific - big golden orbs. Anyway...I used to force myself to eat a few so as to kid myself the purchase wasn't a disaster but it was heavy going. But this year we just left the oranges on the tree because they looked good, almost good enough to eat so I did eat one and got a surprise - it was mildly sweet and quite enjoyable. I guess the longer you leave fruit the more sugar builds up or something.

Oh ye of little faith. Trust me. In Nigeria I am a man of great social standing. The locals call me mittah ponzi. Get hold of a very ripe seville and you'll be pleasantly surprised and want more. It's a refreshing taste. Tart but not too much with traces of sweetness.

This doesn't sound like you. Clearly you're going through a personal crisis. You'll find another girl.

Seville makes good marmalade, for eating fresh or juicing you are better off buying a navelina type. Or perhaps true blood orange if you have sufficient chill requirements to get the anthocyanin pigmentation to develop.

Cara Cara are also very good oranges in Australia and there is potential for it to develop as a commercial crop, being disease resistant, dwarfing and long fruit season. They are also higher in anti-oxidants than some other varieties.

Popped a Valencia the other day and...delicious.Probably nicer than our Washington Navels but it's early days yet for the Ws. We have a blood orange and it's refreshing when ripe but ...oh dear the waiting. I think we could have done without the blood.

Look at Seminole Tangelo and Arnolds Blood Orange (sanguinello), both amazingly fresh, sweet, citrus good for backyards.
