Then understand that many of these 14 in fact do repeat joint ventures into R&D, like Toyota and GM to name a famous one.

Creativity is stifled when the industrial sector runs like a two-bob socialist curtain dictatorship run for the profit of the state/manufacturer at the expense of style, innovation and aesthetics.
They corner the market and streamline it, then buy out the competition.
There is no need to invent the wheel, just paint the bonnet a new colour to fool the consumer.

This is why we don't have nice things anymore, greedy buggers are only chasing the shekels.
