On (((Teflon))) coated aluminum!

[ - ] jewsbadnews 1 point 3.5 yearsDec 11, 2021 19:14:33 ago (+1/-0)

Oh shit redpill me on telfon.

[ - ] Ragnar 1 point 3.5 yearsDec 11, 2021 22:02:26 ago (+1/-0)

He literally just did.

Teflon is coated aluminium. Aluminium itself is terrible if in contact with food while hot. But the chemicals they use to coat to make the pans non stick are known carcinogens and endocrine disrupters. They use the same chemicals on fast food wrapping paper and boxes.

Seriously watch the film Dark Waters then reflect on how hard it was to expose it. Then multiply to everything on our shelves.

Never wash it and don't overheat. I clean mine with a dab of oil and a plastic scrubbie, maybe a bit of scraping with a spatula if necessary.
I have several, and my fave is a Birmingham Stove & Range mid 1920's 9 inch that I use for eggs. Perfect every time..

[ - ] GeneralDisarray 3 points 3.5 yearsDec 11, 2021 15:46:10 ago (+3/-0)

I fry eggs in mine and it's way easier than the stainless steel frying pan that just welds the eggs to the pan.

Cast iron is a must have for perfect fried eggs.

I swear stainless steel is the worst.

[ - ] GeneralDisarray 2 points 3.5 yearsDec 11, 2021 19:53:48 ago (+2/-0)

Well if you don't mind having eggs that look like they stormed a beach it's fine.

Apart from trying to clean it afterwards!

Your right it's the worst.

Besides being a good stovetop pan, You can use it in the oven 6 Million times and it will be like it never happened…

The way I clean mine is rinse with hot water and scrub with a dedicated sponge (soapless). Remove all the surface debris, then heat on high for 10 mins.

Keep it seaoned and it is indeed non stick. Anyone still using "non-stick" coated kitchen stuff should watch the film Dark Waters.

Soap is fine. Lye is not. Lye hasn’t been in dish soap in decades.

Do some research or poison yourself. Either way. The oldest solutions are often the safest in my mind.

Use one every time. Old pans are the best. Find them at yard sales ad refurbish them. Newer ones are rough and unfinished.

I like Lead, it doesn't let x-rays get past. so people xraying your food are left out and crying. Just kidding, I use Iron, have one loaded with hamburger patties right now, just waiting for the right moment to turn on the stove.

Titanium-stainless steel; Shit doesn't stick, easy to clean. Only down side is it costs a fortune.

[ - ] shitface9000 1 point 3.5 yearsDec 11, 2021 14:59:23 ago (+1/-0)

Ceramic also makes a good pot.

Is enameled cast iron a "harmful chemical coating?"

[ - ] UncleDoug 1 point 3.5 yearsDec 11, 2021 20:59:53 ago (+1/-0)

Enamel is not on the cooking surface, and you still have to season the cast iron with fat.

[ - ] bonghits4jeebus 1 point 3.5 yearsDec 11, 2021 23:07:45 ago (+1/-0)

I'm talking about, like, Le Creuset or Staub. They have something on the cooking surface. I don't actually know very much about what they are. My gf collects it. We actually cook on stainless. Go figure.
