Fuck me. Car is dead after ~1000 miles and they want the price of a new car to fix it? Electric vehicles are an absolute scam.

[ - ] mikenigger 1 point 3.4 yearsDec 20, 2021 12:55:04 ago (+1/-0)

It doesn't add up, either he only drove 1000 miles for 10 years or he bought it used, in which case he's an idiot. You don't buy a 2012 model that's about to become a moneypit, the battery is out of warranty at that point.

[ - ] Zyklonbeekeeper 2 points 3.4 yearsDec 20, 2021 13:01:35 ago (+2/-0)

You want something that runs on batteries?...get a cordless hand tool. Kill off the fucking kikes and this climate change shit will disappear.

[ - ] Broc_Liath 1 point 3.4 yearsDec 20, 2021 13:06:25 ago (+1/-0)

Also a waste of money, they die like flies and run out of power constantly. I use corded only.

Thats fine for the homeowner. You are obviously not a professional tradesman.

[ - ] Zyklonbeekeeper 0 points 3.4 yearsDec 20, 2021 16:48:46 ago (+0/-0)

Have you ever had to drill a hole in a makeshift frame for a bilge pump 25 miles from shore in a 21ft boat?...fuck of a long extension cord.

[ - ] Broc_Liath 0 points 3.4 yearsDec 20, 2021 13:08:29 ago (+0/-0)

It said he was an "early buyer" of that model.

Either way a car that needs $20,000 of reinvestment every ten years is an absolutely trash waste of resources.

[ - ] mikenigger 0 points 3.4 yearsDec 20, 2021 13:29:28 ago (+0/-0)*

It said he was an "early buyer" of that model.

The article says that, the source does not. The owner said "the first 1500 km was nice" followed immediately by the mention of error codes and the car being stuck at service.

He didn't average 10 miles/year for 10 years, he's a chump who bought a used car with a worn out battery.

Assuming it's 1-2 bad modules you can do the repair somewhere else, a car dealer won't mend your IC engine either.

[ - ] Broc_Liath 1 point 3.4 yearsDec 20, 2021 15:58:13 ago (+1/-0)

The article says that, the source does not.

Are you assuming the article was based solely off the video?

I'll reiterate that a car which requires a new car worth of parts every ten years is trash. If I bought a second hand petrol or diesel car of that age it'd probably need work, but not $20,000 worth of work unless it was used in a destruction derby or something.

[ - ] mikenigger 0 points 3.4 yearsDec 20, 2021 17:53:47 ago (+0/-0)

Are you assuming the article was based solely off the video?

What is the source for him being the original owner? What was the total mileage? "He was _apparently_ among the early buyers" is journalist-speak for "I'm pulling this out of my ass"

I'll reiterate that a car which requires a new car worth of parts every ten years is trash

I've seen TCO comparisons to other luxury cars, it's still cheaper. I've also seen the Model S Plaid and think it's shit, but those are subjective reasons.

[ - ] Broc_Liath 0 points 3.4 yearsDec 21, 2021 12:55:01 ago (+0/-0)

I have no idea, I didn't write the article. Picking the one line inconvenient to your claims and assuming it's false for reasons is ridiculous.

Ok, but that's part of the problem. EVs have to be compared to luxury cars because it's the only price point where they make any sense. They cannot compete against regular petrol or diesel vehicles because they're a money sink.

"Apparently" is not a source. The article has no more information in it than what the video provides, it's blogspam.

It's not a case of "have to be compared", the Model S has always been a luxury car, you can't compare it to a corolla.

[ - ] Broc_Liath 0 points 3.4 yearsDec 21, 2021 22:16:40 ago (+0/-0)

Make up your mind. First you complained because that quote wasn't in the video, now you're claiming everything in the article is in the video.

It's not a case of "have to be compared", the Model S has always been a luxury car, you can't compare it to a corolla.

It's a luxury car because "I have money to burn" is the only market segment that can afford tens of thousands of dollars just in energy storage. And that's with all the subsidies.

No EV can do what a petrol car does at the price it does it.

[ - ] mikenigger 0 points 3.4 yearsDec 22, 2021 08:03:42 ago (+0/-0)

It was never a quote, it was the author's assumptions with nothing to back it up.

The energy cost for EV's is half of gas cars, depending on the region.

It may have been left out in the subzero cold and depleted once or twice, causing some key cells to be destroyed and significantly lowering the range of the whole pack.

I've been subbed to that YouTube channel for ages. It's actually pretty awesome.

The explosives expert actually owns an effects business if I recall.

Edit: They put this on the Beyond the Press channel as well. That's the one I'm subbed to. Pommijätkät is the explosives company channel.

Maybe he should have removed his head from his ass before buying it.

Before the explosion, a mannequin with the face of the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, was placed in the driver’s seat.

The world's richest man

Elon Musk

Lol. People really believe whatever they read. Truly ridiculous.

Finland is also really cold. Terrible place to own an electric car

[ - ] bonghits4jeebus 0 points 3.4 yearsDec 20, 2021 16:04:32 ago (+0/-0)

I called this when Li-Ion electric cars got popular, and they said "No, these batteries last "the lifetime" of the vehicle." Yeah, if you do like they want and trade it in every 2 years. Dumbasses.

Which isn't to say, like, I've done way more than 20k of maintenance on my BMWs, but I expect that. The idiots with the electric cars always claim they are maintenance free.

[ - ] mikenigger 0 points 3.4 yearsDec 20, 2021 17:55:56 ago (+0/-0)

No, these batteries last "the lifetime" of the vehicle.

it's 8 years for the battery

He said on the video that he has nothing shadowy tesla or Elon musk and that he just wanted to do something fun.

I don't buy the article

Well, it was not his channel, it is some other explosive experts, but did he get some sort of recompense, I don't know.
