Ghosting is considered a socially accepted practice. I get ghosted by employers all the time. If you don't hear back in a few days, you're rejected. Women ghost men as well.

Took me a while to accept that it's a social norm.

Ghosting people is cowardly. How hard it is to say I will not speak to you anymore, good bye, and perhaps even offer a reason as to why? It isn't hard at all. People are raised to be cowards hiding behind one liner sms afraid and anxious of what line of text will be returned.
