I think the point to take from this whole account, is that she was denied by her own government, but assisted by terrorists her government spent a decade fighting, everything else is a side story.

Your point is valid, but so is mine. She could have solved the situation by getting married. Even if it's just for the papers, how valid can a marriage certificate from Qatar or Belgium have been once she is back home? She could be in Europe right now, or have staid at her old job in Qatar.
