I live in Alaska, it's only dark for 30 days in the northern most part, like Barrow.

Honest question:
Shouldn't the perpetual darkness be centered around the winter solstice? ie, 10 days on either side of December 21st?

I mean my understanding without living there is that it's not completely dark. There's still a lighter time and a darker time; the sun never completely rises. I have actually been there in summer, and while it's light a lot there is still a nighttime.

I watched that show Northern Exposure and one episode was the 2 or 3 or 4 days of constant sunlight, and the craziness constant sunlight causes.

That's kind of in line with what I would think, but I have no desire to go there at either time.

I'm the main city of Anchorage, the sun rises at 10:30 and sets at 2:30 around early December. Perpetual darkness is in the northern most part.

Alaska is for polar bears, not people. Move to where it's warm, California or Florida. Take the wise advice from the uncle who cares so much for you.
