As an aside, the "duck and cover" thing is often laughed at but it makes perfect sense. If you're inside the fireball zone you're fucked, nothing you do can help you. If you're in the concussion zone taking cover would help you avoid being injured by flying debris and glass, possibly even a collapsing roof. If you're in the flash zone ducking and covering could help minimise direct radiation exposure.

I was realizing that you need to keep your Geiger counters in strong metal boxes so they don't get destroyed by any EMP otherwise they're useless if you get blasted.
