I usually play on Lichess, but made a Chess.com account because of this post. I stomped my first game (new account and I've been playing for a few years) and the guy spent a full 3 minutes staring at the board before resigning. Not playing through, just clearly wasting time. I understand wanting to look for an out, but this was literally my king, bishop, and four pawns versus his king alone. It seems like clear trolling to me, and I've seen this stuff maybe a handful of times on lichess.
I knew a guy who would set an egg-timer when playing yahoo chess(this was a very long time ago). People who would piss him off got the egg-timer treatment where he would make his move at the last possible second to make a match take hours. Meanwhile he would be off doing other shit. The kicker was if they left it counted as a loss.
I've played plenty of chess many years ago. IT"S A FUCKING WASTE OF TIME. IT'S A FUCKING WASTE OF BRAIN CELLS. Seriously, it's a perverse game that has no use in the real world. None. What are you going to do with your "well rounded western man" chess knowledge?
Chess is like Poker or any other similar game. They are memorization games. The problem is that once you take it seriously and start memorizing every card played or mapping out and remembering every possible chess move for you and your appointment, it becomes less of a game and more of a complicated exercise. It takes all the fun out of it because the only thing you really ever get out of it is winning, which currently has zero payout unless you are playing for money, which again, is not fun.
If you want a tangible brain exercise with real world results, try computer programming. I think it's funner than chess or poker and can turn into a career. Sure you could try playing chess or poker professionally, but it only has one single avenue, beat everyone else. There are thousands of avenues to success in programming. You could end up programming factories, robots, games or write a program to automate/replace a spreadsheet.
