You're assuming a Toronto Star reporter can read a scientific article and get any of it straight. Certain stimuli can inactivate a gene, but I doubt that's what they're doing, and I'm not interested enough to dig up the paper and look at what it's actually doing.

The figures for birth control claim to include people who use it properly, but they tend to include everyone. So you can do a lot better than the odds, but there's always a chance.

One advantage of male birth control is I'm pretty sure men would take it. Women are terrible about taking their birth control, even though it's retardedly simple. Of course, I guess stats include women who only claim to not to want to get pregnant but actually do.
