I wonder if they're going to put the rabbits on leashes too.
Edit: I guess no one's been reading about the insane rabbit plague happening in 'Straya. The comment was pointing out that native wildlife is already hopelessly disrupted so this is a silly unnecessary measure.
See my comment below. It has happened. The 'cat shelter' lady caused a handful of cats to make my former neighborhood a home base. They wandered everywhere, and they didn't exactly use the sidewalks. They slink around up near houses and landscaping for cover. Cats can easily become a nuisance if they aren't controlled, as in, just making shelter and food available and letting them roam freely.
We had one of those diagonal to our backyard when we lived in town. General nuisance, attacking my yard birds, shitting and pissing all over. I killed all of them. So, so many.
What are you talking about? When I lived in town, cats would scale my fence and shit and piss in my wife's potted plants and also attack my ducks. I killed so many of them the jews should make a movie about it.
Perhaps you don't realize which thread you replied to or which alt you logged into?
Cats dont shit in potted plants. So now I know you're a liar, makes me wonder if you have a wife. How do you even have ducks , in a matter that cats can get to them but they can't fly away? everything about your story is suspiciously convenient. I guess you live in the one place in the world where cats shit in potted plants.
Your story is like the 40 year old virgin trying to explain tits. You don't know what you're talking about.

I don't love cats, and I don't totally hate them. Every cat I've owned has been a kitten some asshole dumped near my property (have had multiple people in cars stop, drop a box of kittens off, and drive away). This has made my relationship with cats a love-hate one.
On the one hand, I've always kept them outdoors (barn cats). They are one of the most reliable pest controls you could imagine: they kill rats and snakes like it's their job. But they also kill birds, and I like birds.
I think as a mature adult you've got to just give some things up to the brute facts of nature, there's usually nothing that's purely good or purely bad (other than dogs, dogs are pure good if they aren't pitbulls).
I don't enjoy the way cats kill things though. They aren't like dogs that will just snap a kill's neck. They toy with their victims for hours and make a game of it.
I could easily see why a municipality might put in some ordinance about cats 'in town'. In the sticks, it should be up to a property owner, but in denser neighborhoods, I can understand an indoor rule. I once lived in a suburb where a bleeding-heart single mom across the street made all kinds of 'winter shelters' for stray cats. It attracted many cats to the neighborhood. Each homeowner had their dogs properly contained, but the cats meandered through the neighborhood at their leisure. Not only can I count on the fact nobody was getting these things fixed or de-wormed or checked for fleas, but they would 'play' the neighborhood dogs like a fucking piano, making the dogs bark like crazy wherever they went. This sounds like a metaphor for the west.

That makes sense. But it also seems that a hungry cat is likelier to wander, and I didn't necessarily want half-feral animals either. There was one cat in a group of five I recall that still wandered despite being well-fed. He would disappear for days at a time and turn back up looking like he'd been on a bender. The problem was he'd get wolf worms and shit like that, and I wasn't exactly rounding up five cats bi-annually for vet appointments, so it turned into feline 'field medicine'.
They're going to come up with some reason you can't have rabbits because they are a staple of too many preppers (along with chickens). "No food for you, goy!"
Rabbits have done huge damage to Australia, more than cats. Foxes are a problem too. There are foxes round where I live, and this is a built up area with fast disappearing gardens (due to Chinese expansion.)
I just went down the rabbit hole on... rabbits. You guys have hundreds of millions, but I have a solution! Here, the coyotes eat all the rabbits. I put in a call to my coyote guy, so expect a crate full within the week. If that doesn't work, we'll send crates of roadrunners and Fudds. Those will definitely take care of your rabbit and coyote problems.
Guess Australian cat owners now have to buy guns and genocide the wildlife by themselves. Once it is completely gone the cats won't be a problem anymore.
Back in the 80s worked with a painting crew in NZ for awhile. One of the jobs was for the Dept. of Conservation (they had just changed from Forest Service). We went up in the forest to paint some buildings for week, DOC gave us a .22 rifle and told us to shot any cats we saw.
Oh boo hoo, cat owners. You want to own an animal that can destroy whole ecosystems on its own for fun, then you're going to have to keep better control of it than just fucking leaving it outside for 18 hours a day by itself.
I understand the reasoning, and even as a cat owner, more or less support it. But i vaguely remember that some place in Australia banned all cats, and shortly after they had a massive mice infestation, destroying crops and spreading disease.
I’d be ok with this. Cat owners that let their pet run wild are shitty people, unless it’s used on a farm to eat vermin. If my dog can’t run free, then neither should your cat. Cat owners never pick up their shit outside either.

Over my lifetime, I've stepped in 100x more dog shit than I've ever seen cat shit outside.
They're secretive. They go in the bushes, not in a fucking garden.

Much like how you imagine cats are lurking outside haunting your ferns.
Cats don't shit in the yard, they shit undercover in the bushes where it's safe and they have cover.

Incidentally Australia's first Islamic terrorist attack was committed by Afghans. They shot up a train and killed a number of people.
