It looks like one. You wonder if it's rear engine like the original or an abomination like the new one. When I was a kid, it was still fairly common to see the originals on the road. Maybe it still is in California. I don't know.

In the late 70s and 80s, my brother and I would play a game called "Punch Buggy" during family trips. If you were the first to spot any VW Beetle, you got to slug the other person in the arm. There was a fair amount of punching on those trips.
