Crested T. Pachanoi

T. Pachanoi or San Pedro is a type of cactus that produces mescaline. I've been collecting them for a while, but I noticed something cool with this one. It underwent a mutation called cresting. It's normally supposed to have between 5 and seven ribs, but this guy has at least 16 at the top that are fanning out.

Gross. You should get that checked out.

Oh I'll get it checked out alright. That mutation just tripled the value of the plant.

You assume it’s just a genetic mutation, but it could be due to a virus or fungal infection. Infections or some other damage could lead to scar tissue and abnormal growth. I wouldn’t assume you can replicate this with a cutting but hey give it a try.

I think OP needs to rewatch "Alien".

It's a genetic mutation, the clipping came from a cactus that was monstrose (already showing known genetic mutations)

Beautiful cactus! I had 40 pachanoi, bridgesii and peruvianus, most grown from seed. Experimented with grafting them onto Pereskiopsis for rapid growth. Unfortunately i had to sell most all of them as I was escaping Cali to a colder region. They sold like hotcakes to a variety of characters.
Maybe one day I will have a solarium to regrow my cactus forest. You should try cloning that crested as they are rare and go for an added premium. I never ate any of them but caring for them was rewarding enough.

I probably will clone it. It's getting to be time for my yearly cactus adventure. A couple weeks ago I found one of my other Pedros broken at the base. I think a hawk must have done it trying to go after a lizard. The piece is about two feet long so that's plenty for a solid experience.

It really is a great feeling caring for them and watching them grow, if not a lesson in patience.

I had a few 3 inch babies that just disappeared. One was some retarded lab and i suspect wild rabbits ate the others. Good luck!

I was going to start a trichocereus subvoat, but didnt think it would have any interest here. I might do it now.

Gardening looks stupid. Blech. You should die or something. Get AWAY from me with your stupid salad.

Bear is apparently a strict carnivore.

You would be too, if you were a bear.

Roughly how big is the top of what I am looking at, peckerwood? Like a fist?

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry [op] 1 point 2.9 yearsMay 26, 2022 16:39:53 ago (+1/-0)

Maybe like a woman's fist.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry [op] 0 points 2.9 yearsMay 26, 2022 14:02:42 ago (+0/-0)

Yeah it is

[ - ] MuricaPersonified 0 points 2.9 yearsMay 26, 2022 10:35:22 ago (+0/-0)

Do you eat them?

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry [op] 0 points 2.9 yearsMay 26, 2022 16:42:03 ago (+0/-0)

I make a brew out of them about once a year. Basically just a water extraction. Takes about two hours to kick in and lasts about 12. I usually go camping and drink the foul tasting liquid a couple hours before sunset.
