Protestants take the position that 'the church' is the people of God, the believers. And that salvation is 'by grace through faith', in that everyone who believes in their heart the Gospel and confesses with their lips that Jesus is Lord, the same has eternal life.
Catholicism takes the position that 'the church' is the institution. And that salvation is conferred through the taking of the 'sacraments', in that if you are cut-off, there is no salvation to be had. (There is no salvation outside of the institution of 'the church').
This leads to a variety of different views on other matters.
The view that Catholicism takes is quite easily refuted using the Bible to define 'the church'. No where in the Bible is the concept of a domineering authority something 'the church' was ever supposed to be.
Dominion and authority;

Christ and the church together are the great mystery;
Ephesians 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

Ephesians 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
Ephesians 5:31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
Ephesians 5:32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
As you can see from the passages in Ephesians, 'the church' is equated to 'the body' of Christ, in the context of a living God, it refers to a living body, the members of which are the individual believers of the LORD Jesus Christ.

As I understand it it's to do with Jesus leaving St. Peter in charge after he ascends and promising to hold holy in heaven what he holds holy on earth. Hence the papal infallability doctrine.
Anyhow, let's say the protestants are correct and catholicism is wrong to take the conclusions of the doctors of the church as infallable, that then means the council of nicea's codification of the bible is up for question.

The existence of 1000's of identical Greek and Hebrew manuscripts, saying the same thing, and being directly translatable to the KJV, and being verifiable using the Strongs Concordance, are a good indication of the authenticity and incorruptible nature of the word of God.

In any case, problem isn't whether or not they're alive or being executed. The problem is that there's been not only a lack of consequence for increasingly socially damaging degeneracy but an active encouragement. Frequently, when you pull back from that, the initial punishment/consequences are harsher specifically to show that things are serious.
Further, you can't multiply your race if you're putting it in someone's shithole, can you? Breaking a direct commandment there.
If you consider yourself a part of any faith that follows Biblical text, the Bible is first and foremost a rule book for a theocracy and only second a guidebook on personal issues with the idea being that a governing body will not control you but rather remove the things that would harm you spiritually. So if there's an issue with that, it needs to be reconciled, yes?

Like I said, I don't trust any jury or government with the death penalty. People have been falsely convicted of all of those things. Our justice system is already built on the principle that juries should not convict anyone where a reasonable doubt remains as to their innocence. This should make it near impossible for an innocent person to be convicted but instead false convictions are a daily occurrance and judges routinely preside over trials where the only evidence is accusations.
I also don't see the point in making someone miserable just for the sake of it, it's usually expensive and punishes the innocent by forcing them to pay for it. It'd make much more sense to me to require a convict to labour to cover the cost of protecting the community from them and recompense their victim.
I think it's highly likely that homosexuality is a heritable behaviour, just like schitzophrenia and bipolar depression.
Funny, we managed without them just fine for millenia.

When we give the government and jurors the ability to convict and sentence to someone to death, it is a delegation of the responsibility of the worst parts of protecting your society. Christianity is more about the relationship between you and God and can't be reduced to a social theory of how things ought to run. It's not Islam. As for Paul the point is don't do it.. because by rights under the law you'd be killed. Christianity is also very much about applying personal agency towards doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do rather than doing things because of the imposition of a social order or imposing that order on others. Because of that emphasis on personal agency it is important to make the case why someone should or shouldn't do a thing rather than explain why someone should get violent to impose the thing you want.

As for the mentioning of being killed, Paul is describing the Law. Which has relevancy to your relationship with God. Understanding the Christian concept of Law vs post-Law / New Law is relevant and Romans more broadly is more concerned with teaching the nuances of that and salvation, while homosexuality is a mere mention used to discuss that broader topic.
I guess my point is that if the logic doesn't seem to jive that there would be law worth describing but not enforced by the church itself Romans' entire point is to go over that.
