I’d rather work in an office than at home. Allows for a clear cut off of my workday. Also I’d rather be around people than at home for the rest of my life.
I think someone should explain how so much of the economy is office jobs in the first place.
That's a pretty dystopian way to look at life. 99% of office jobs are completely redundant and exist to distract people with monotonous day to day, 9 - 5 hour work that either never needed to be done or will never be looked at anyway. If you are part of that rare 1% that honestly believes your office work makes the world go round then pat yourself on the back and carry on champ.

I write software. I do not delude myself that I am a master of the universe, but I also know where it gets used, and, when everything goes well, I'm proud of that.
The associated paperwork is legal compliance. Labor laws are very complex,am business owner. Are you saying capitalism is inefficient? Because with statements like yours, that's what I am hearing.
I've worked from home and an office, and I think there are +/- to both. It is pretty lonely.

Right now the most premium product in the world is information. So to be in a rich country where wages are high, we have to produce a lot of that. For the most part, when we stick people in a factory the value add that they create is not high enough to justify a wage that supports a high standard of living. Not to mention environmental regulations and the fact that many people prefer to sit in a chair all day.
As an past IT guy most staffers that I spied upon their pc activity wasted most of each workday on social media and similar. (15 years later I'm sure it's worse). And that was at the office.
At home it must be even worse. Productivity must suck
One of the companies I work with had this happen. They went permanent WFH during covid. The owner then said they'd never go back to the office. Business was sold, and the new owner demanded back to the office. Many moved already, and just quit.
After covid my company set a date for when we returned to the office. The date came and went. I just ignored it and kept working from home. Nobody said shit for 3 months. Point proven.

Hopefully they stop building horrendous office buildings for useless 9 - 5 wage slaves.
