This is the hidden theme in shows like the walking dead. When they are in the "wild" constantly killing zombies the group becomes hardened. When they create gated communities and have people guard them, the citizens become weak and pacified. They have to strike a balance in which you can have safety but also remain brutal and relentless.

Its a shame they fill the shows with other sjw crap to the point where they are not worth watching.
