I still have a manual as an everyday driver and I do all those things he says he can't regardless. I never got how some people can't eat a sandwhich or have a drink while driving stick. I prefer stick since no one I know can drive them so they can't borrow my car for anything.

eat a sandwhich or have a drink while driving

Most people aren't even coordinated enough to safely drive, let alone do anything while driving. And asking them to focus on anything other than stuffing their gob with food in their face is asking a bit too much.

Sad.

[ - ] v0atmage [op] 5 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 10:20:35 ago (+6/-1)

EVs are the death blow. I really loathe that car manufacturers will stop making ICE vehicles soon. No one fucking asked for that. Hybrids make sense to me but pure electric is crap.

[ - ] cyclops1771 7 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 12:20:49 ago (+7/-0)

I was assigned a Prius once as a rental car. Icy rain/snow mix. That car kept trying to change power between electric and gas motor and the car was sliding all over the road. had to floor it to keep it on gas only in order to have a chance of not sleeping in the ditch.

[ - ] lord_nougat 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 13:52:57 ago (+1/-0)

Hybrids only make sense from the maximising profits via cheaply made complexity, mostly [with some German exceptions]. I'd rather have pure internal combustion or pure electric. The right tool for the right job!

[the internal combustion car would be for driving; the electric for use as an IED. In minecraft].

[ - ] v0atmage [op] 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 15:06:13 ago (+1/-1)

I want the back to the future car where i can essentially throw garbage into the tank and make fuel out of it.

[ - ] lord_nougat 2 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 15:07:53 ago (+2/-0)

For what it's worth, with all the ethanol, the expensive gas we're filling up with these days IS garbage!

[ - ] diggernicks 3 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 16:11:59 ago (+3/-0)

They should be turning that corn into liquor.

[ - ] lord_nougat 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 16:17:00 ago (+0/-0)

Fuck, I love bourbon.

We do not forgive

We do not forget

[ - ] totes_magotes 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 19:00:03 ago (+1/-0)

And no one asked for cars; they were happy with horses and carriages.

[ - ] FuckYallImGoingHome 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 23:51:53 ago (+0/-0)

That's a a really fucking dumb comparison.

Nissan trucks have them

[ - ] v0atmage [op] 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 11:50:27 ago (+2/-1)

Really? I have one, they are pretty common over the last 20 years or so.

[ - ] lord_nougat 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 13:54:59 ago (+0/-0)

We pretty much all drive 20 year old cars.

The Acura turned 18 this year, actually. She's legal now!

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer 2 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 14:06:24 ago (+2/-0)

Lol, how true this is. Anything more modern is crippled by electronics and intentionally shitty, diversity-hire, engineering.

[ - ] calx 2 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 14:22:50 ago (+2/-0)

You got that right. I can't stand newer cars they are all iPads on wheels. I have a 2005 manual 6 speed and I'm gonna drive it until the wheels fall off. Just turned 90k so it'll be a while. :)

[ - ] lord_nougat 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 14:27:57 ago (+1/-0)

I have a 101 year old car that I should pay attention to and get running again, but I'd probably have to get rid of the boat in order to pay total attention to a new hobby...

[ - ] 867530nein 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 15:30:20 ago (+1/-0)

my old 97 ram air had a 6 speed

[ - ] diggernicks 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 11:22:26 ago (+1/-1)

You live under a rock?

Most large non cdl trucks have 6 speed manuals if not automatic

The 5 speeds they used to make weren't even geared tall enough to break the speed limit

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 14:05:34 ago (+0/-0)

The 5 speeds they used to make weren't even geared tall enough to break the speed limit

???

I own a 4cyl grocery-getter that's a 5-speed stick that will easily break the speed limit.

[ - ] diggernicks 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 14:52:29 ago (+1/-0)

Diesal engines dont rev very high

Work trucks that haul heavy shit have to be geared low so you don't have to rev them to the redline to start moving

You must work in an office massaging corporate balls all day

A car trans is nothing like a work trucks transmission

[ - ] lord_nougat 2 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 15:08:41 ago (+2/-0)

This guy is a tranny expert!

[ - ] diggernicks 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 15:12:13 ago (+1/-0)

You mean transmissions though right

[ - ] lord_nougat 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 15:14:55 ago (+0/-0)

Well yeah, duh.

You tranny expert!

[ - ] totes_magotes 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 19:02:20 ago (+0/-0)

So do you have to change the "gearbox" when you change the fluids? Asking for a "friend."

[ - ] diggernicks 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 19:03:33 ago (+0/-0)

I'm far too lazy to wrench on my own vehicles

I hire it out

We are talking about transmissions yes?

[ - ] totes_magotes 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 19:27:50 ago (+0/-0)

Dude, there's nothing more satisfying than wrenching your own transmission. Hell, some people enjoy wrenching other peoples' transmissions.

[ - ] diggernicks 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 19:30:47 ago (+0/-0)

Id rather have a tonsillectomy sans novicaine

the trick for steep hills is to engage ebrake, rev up, release clutch slowly, when it catches release ebrake.

Pain in the ass, but it saves your clutch from burning.

[ - ] NationalSocialism 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 18:58:07 ago (+1/-0)

My manual car has a “hill assist” feature. I disabled it though.

[ - ] v0atmage [op] 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 19:24:40 ago (+1/-1)

didn't know that was a thing. I wonder what it does to prevent stalling.

[ - ] NationalSocialism 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 19:36:43 ago (+1/-0)

I don’t know who downvoted you, but it prevents you from rolling backwards on a hill.

Hill Start Assist is a technology that helps you smooth out starts on hills without rolling backward. But how does it work exactly?

When you stop your vehicle on a hill, a pitch sensor alerts the vehicle’s engine control unit (ECU) to momentarily hold the brake while you move your foot to the gas pedal, so you don’t roll backward. Gravity loses out to technology in this battle.

BTW, have you spoken with Dangus? Is he on another forum?

b4p got a little upset by my last post

BTW, have you spoken with Dangus? Is he on another forum?

Not really but he's on a matrix chat server if you're interested. PM for details. Also there are some alt forums in the works I could imagine him joining.

tlolocaust podcast is still a thing, too.

Sweet, I like dangus. I feel like he contributed a lot to this site and hopefully he gets reinstated in the meantime. Unpopular opinion, I think B4A was just trolling users especially ALS at the time with the “mark rydan” postings. I don’t actually think he’s a pedo. I’m a free speech purist, unless it happens to be spam or anything illegal by American law.

I’ll send a PM. I think I had a matrix account, but I hated the format. This was about a year ago.

tlolocaust podcast is still a thing, too.

Great news. The podcast isn’t appreciated enough around here.

I've considered that angle, but I still find him an incorrigible pedo enabler either way. Getting off on posting borderline degenerate content doesn't win any points with me.

Great news. The podcast isn’t appreciated enough around here.

Thanks, man. next show is 10pm Thursday EST.

PDK and CVT are replacements for automatic transmission which was a replacement for manual transmission.
No one carries around flintlocks anymore, why would I still want a manual?

[ - ] AnmanIndustries 3 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 11:40:20 ago (+4/-1)

Manuals are superior in every way to an auto. They are stronger, have less parts that can break, give you greater control of the vehicle and are lighter. Autos are for people who have no intention of learning how to control their car or keeping their car for more than a few years. The same sort of people who slow down when there is a few drops of rain. The same people that get other people killed because they do not understand the danger of being in 1-2 tonnes of high speed metal.

[ - ] UncleDoug 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 11:45:17 ago (+1/-0)

But not superior in any way to a performance vehicle with a DCT (Dual clutch)/PDK (Porsche Doppel Kupplungs getriebe) or an economy car fitted with a CVT (Continuous variable transmission).

Or what about performance autos? Camaro ZL1 10-speed is better than anyone on a manual.

[ - ] diggernicks 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 11:51:27 ago (+1/-0)

Camaro?

Are you a wetback illegal invader?

[ - ] lord_nougat 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 13:58:58 ago (+1/-0)

One of my neighbors has one of these. It's supercharged and weird and kind of cool, in a preposterous excess kind of a way. I almost like it. The Dodge Challenger looks much cooler, though. Another neighbor has one of those... but since they're Fiats, I'd expect weird super annoying fatal flaws to emerge just after the expiration of the warranty... and some a bit before.

Apologies, we were discussing transmissions.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 11:59:08 ago (+1/-0)

But not superior in any way

Manuals give you more control in adverse condition. Period.

[ - ] UncleDoug 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 12:02:52 ago (+1/-0)

Having multiple clutches with one always engaged is actually safer. Having the ability to upshift and downshift from the steering wheel is actually safer in every condition. Period.

Educate yourself on a transmission that was built after the 1920s that isn't your boyfriend's Miata.

[ - ] MelGibson 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 12:52:46 ago (+1/-0)

I can drop the manual in my Tacoma and work on it. I can’t do that with the autos. Manuals are superior in every way because you have more control over the vehicle and you rely on other people less. What you can in performance with a 10 speed auto cancels itself out by what you can’t do in your garage.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 13:30:18 ago (+0/-0)

You should really learn how to use manual, not just be able to shift with it.

[ - ] UncleDoug 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 13:38:26 ago (+0/-0)

Who said I can't? People on nuVoat love making up little narratives it seems.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 14:06:57 ago (+0/-0)

You did, in your prior posts. We can tell.

[ - ] mikenigger 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 13:46:38 ago (+1/-0)

and emission regulations make it harder to offer a manual, automatics are more efficient

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 14:08:10 ago (+1/-0)

Only when they intentionally don't put the engineering into manuals that they do into automatics. Automatics lose about 10%-15% of the energy from the engine right off the bat.

[ - ] mikenigger 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 14:29:51 ago (+1/-0)

nah the problem is humans don't switch gears all the time for efficiency , automatics change gears a lot

[ - ] scholarandrogue 1 point 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 13:03:15 ago (+1/-0)

push starting by popping the clutch in gear

[ - ] iocane 0 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 11:15:10 ago (+1/-1)

I understand why some people love manual but this is a normal technological progression for cars. I'm sure there were people who loved to crank their car and could go on for hours about how cranking the car to start it is far superior because....

[ - ] diggernicks 2 points 2.7 yearsAug 9, 2022 16:14:20 ago (+2/-0)

Real mean have pull start cars
