Well, when you smash Olde English with Saxon German to make Middle English, and then smash in Danish/Norwegian, and then throw in French, Latin and Greek, you get weird combinations.

It does, and Spanish more so. The Spanish standardized their language in the 16th century, and they've been doing so conscientiously ever since.

English is germanic grammar with 50% french vocabulary pasted on top of it. Then the Americans got their hands on it.

There are places in Southeast US that still speak like how Britains used to a couple hundred years ago. Britains have distorted English just as much, if not even moreso, than Americans.
