The breaking the glass thing has always weirded me out. I have heard such bullshit explanations for it. The shattering of the temple and God shattering the original androgynous human soul into male and female….
If you read about it enough it just ends up being a bunch of rabbi screaming “It’s Tradition! It’s none of your business Goy.”
As a teen I'd ask why any group would do things I found odd.
Most cultures view breaking something during a good time a bad omen. Some subcultures claim it's a good thing as to counter the ill omen. Others may wish harm as wishing good luck is considered bad. Look at how breaking a glass on opening night of a restaurant is good somehow. Telling and actress to break a leg before she goes on stage is a good thing to say.
