Is this the year?

This is my precious potted peony. Not sure if they are supposed to be potted but I can't plant it in ground so... whatever.

This is the third year. First two years I had no flowers. I was hoping for one last year but nada.

I finally got one of my 3 plumerias to bloom this year.

I have 3. One is 5 years old and the other 2 are 4. I'm in the Midwest so every summer they start to bloom in late July and then I need to bring them inside before they can bloom. This year, however, one started blooming in February and it wasn't until June that one finally bloomed. I probably got 10 flowers from it throughout this summer. My friend tried growing those from cuttings but they ended up getting rot and died.
What were the keys to your success?

I had one Rot out on me of the first 2 I planted and the second 2 took immediately and have been hardy ever since. I think the key is to not over water in the first 6 months after planting. Letting the soil dry out between waterings encourages root growth.

She certainly does love to overwater her plants, so that explains some things.
I suggested the next time she brings some back from vacation, bring some of that volcanic soil, too.
