Possibly, I've seen numerous failures from DBs, the web server, the application stack the server proxies, the parent container/vm shitting, the physical host faulting out, the network stack deciding it was time to seek UBI rather than do it's job, etc.

Mild curiosity, but no opinions on my part as to the root cause given the total lack of information apparent to me.

Yeah, but it's a PHP site, so that means it is most likely running a lamp stack of some variation.

Out of running these, while it is possible for apache to shit the bed, it is rare, and even rarer still for a nginx server to go down, so that is where the assumption of the db comes in, not to mention the latency has been building for a while now which is emblematic of db issues.
