Aside from some external problems that I thought were insurmountable, I was able to become more Stoic in my thinking by realizing that there are some things that one must accept because they won't change. Accepting the reality of things take the pressure off because one is reconciled with what one can change what one can't.
The world and this country are broken. I can't fix them. I change the things I can fix. I'm much happier knowing the difference.
Beer , vapes , oxycontin heroin. Did a great job in the beginning, not so much later.
Now I workout , keep my beer intake limited to 3 per night no more than 3x a week vape only occasionally. Haven't touched any opiates inover 5 years , praise God.
The fact that you lack the cerebral capacity to make your own morals, and must instead rely on Religious fairy-tales to define your morals, is of no real surprise to anyone.
Lack of cholesterol I think could be another one. All our hormones are made out of cholesterol. We need healthy fats for good hormones. Animal fats, good omega fats. I think eating a lot of salmon could be an interesting plan to try for depression. When I was eating a lot of it, I felt the best I ever felt. Just anecdotal though, but for me it worked very well.
Salmon's good and all, but if you really want the best bang for your buck you eat the bait fish. The smaller the fish, the closer to plants as the food source. Sardines are the super-food of the fish world; selenium.
Back when I was 315 pounds, I truly hated myself. I was on the track of budgeting bi-annual mattress changes because after a year or two the mattress that I was laying on for 8 hours a night or less was so compressed that one side was nearly unusable while the other side was like riding the top of an ocean current.
I decided that I had enough of this. I started by getting rid of sugars. That was tough. I still had some foods that I liked on very sparse occasions, but I was in the gym for much longer on those weeks. After starting out with a daily 20 minutes in the gym, I grew that into 30, then 40, then an hour, and then 2 hours. At the height of the fitness regiment that I had planned 2 years later, I was 225, and I was in the gym for at least 2 and a half hours. I learned that cardio was always my favorite, so I went with that to encourage focus and used the exercise machines during the last stretch of 20 to 30 minutes or so.
I checked my weight yesterday and it was 210. I'm pretty tall, 6' 4". My ex-doctor checked my numbers one day, and I saw his face visibly sink (he couldn't oversell me on any products anymore). That was the biggest confidence boost that I ever think that I had. Since then, I've kept a strict dietary plan, exercised regularly, especially during Covid when no one was running the walking trails, and drank a TON of water.
Two weeks ago, I went on a 5 day camping trip with friends and spent most of the first 4 days hiking and taking pictures. I'm in the process of building a new business, and I know that I have plenty of support this time around because I've put in the work to earn others' trust. One of my friends told me that he never would have recognized me now vs. the version of myself that I was nearly a decade ago. Anxiety and depression? Gone.
I built a gym in my basement. I fucking love it. Get up early, have a caffeine and some water, go down stairs and work out, come back up and shower.
It really takes all the annoying things about the gym away and makes it really easy to have as a part of your morning routine. For cardio I usually go do something outside with the dog, otherwise the bike machine when it's -10f or 110f outside.
I beat it by slowly coming to terms with my past. As I grew in understanding and acceptance my lingering depression and self loathing dwindled. It was only able to happen when I stopped being busy all of the time and had time to reflect, even though that was, initially at least, the last thing I wanted to do.
As Jordan Peterson said "The chickens always come home to roost".
Over the years I've gained real confidence in my ability to navigate shitty situations and talk myself out of things. I don't worry hardly at all because I've come through every time unscathed if not stronger.
Only thing that can still get to me is bitches, so I just stay uninvolved. ez mode.

I started to plot creative ways of how to kill the people I hate. Observing them, getting to know their schedules, behaviors and daily interaction to figure out if to pop them as they open the garage door to leave for work in the morning or electrify their mailbox.
The problem is that there are so many that the logistics required is more than I could complete before a mistake was made and authorities alerted.

I suggest a certain level of anxiety/depression is normal for humans.It's when it gets out of hand that the problem starts. Comedian Eric Sykes once said depression was worse than a thousand Dresdens. Interestingly he didn't suicide but lived to an old age.
Quit my job, started my own business. Less money for now, but i am ok with it. It's the greatest feeling in the world not to have to set an alarm to wake up in the morning.
