Never put a cardboard box on your car. Cardboard will scratch the fuck out of your clear coat, unless you want to ruin your car's paint never put a cardboard box on your trunk or hood, and if you do and move it around, when you ruin your paint, I want you to think about this post.

Don't put anything on the paint of a car. Non-stupid 101. Doesn't matter if it's cardboard or otherwise.

Anything harder than the paint will scratch it - including clothing materials like buttons and zippers, etc.

The fact that this needs to be a PSA demonstrates the stupidity of normie America.

I see so many youtube car influencers putting cardboard boxes of expensive car parts resting on their trunks.

"Oh man, let's do an unboxing of this $4,500 carbon fiber shift knob, let me just open this box on the hood of my $14,000 paint job, hopefully the kids watching emulate me".

My car is a 2003. I'll put cardboard boxes wherever the fuck I feel like.

Thanks anyway. I did not know cardboard will scratch up car paint.

My favorite cardboard fact is it's a known carcinogenic material.

Northerners should know how to take care of their paint...just takes one cheap snowbrush to learn.

ANy weight on a car's paint will scratch. It isn't the cardboard, it's the grit.

Ultra bright toothpaste and a rag will polish out most light scratches and headlight fogginess discoloration as well.
It has ultrafine titanium dioxide particles to polish your teeth.

I call those "old man scratches". If you're buying a used car, you'll see these on the hood/trunk 90% of the time if it was owned by an old man. You can have the clear coat on an Oldsmobile 88 wet sanded and buffed in a couple hours.

it's the dirt on the bottom of the box, more than the cardboard...but yes.

Learn how to cut and polish paint. Even better, learn how to paint. It's easy.

I learned the hard way with valve covers. Light even coats, in several layers, wait until each layer dries, cleanliness is key.

I use a little dish washing soap in a bucket of water. And an old wrag, cleans my car really well. No scratches or water spots. (I wash it in the shade.)

Aero Cosmetics Wash and Wax All. I just wait until after it rains. This stuff is amazing, it's cheap and washes and waxes the car without the need for water.

I washed my airplane with that stuff. It’s amazing. The belly wash they sold was ok but I’d just use a 50/50 mix of simple green and water and that always did the job. If you did’t know, airplane bellies get pretty grimy from the exhaust soot that sticks to the oil that leaks from the engine or comes out of the crankcase vent tube.

The only issue is many detergents like you're using can strip the wax layer. It does clean real nice, though.

Cardboard will also dull knives and shears for the same reason.
