**Potato Reveal**. I needed to grow 270 to break even (cost of seed potatoes v cost of supermarket spuds). I got...

310 small to minuscule potatoes.

All in all a disaster. But it was an experiment and I've got seed potatoes for the next crop. I've found potatoes don't like the shade or heavy wet soil. Her Hitler has ceded some of her sunny veggie patch to me and I'm now going to grow spuds in pots with very friable soil and in the sun.

The variety that seemed to do best is "Salad Rose".

Salad Rose:

The rest:

If Mr Putin is intent on declaring WW3 I ask him to hold off until I get better at growing spuds.

We are in the rather unenviable position of having lost a lot of farming knowledge, previously passed down from generation to generation, due urbanisation and the industrial revolution.

Becoming [more] self-sufficient again is an uphill battle that previously took generations but will have to take us mere years before the WEF comes after us.

I'm not a good gardener. I tend to be a fantasist and think I can prove the naysayers wrong. I mostly lose but...my mango tree once produced 3 fantastic mangoes.

[ - ] herbert_west 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 04:20:32 ago (+1/-0)

Mango is a shitty fruit. Mostly pure sugar with little to no vitamins.

[ - ] paul_neri [op] 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 04:24:48 ago (+0/-0)

I think avocado is a more useful fruit.

[ - ] JudyStroyer 4 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 06:41:50 ago (+4/-0)

Yes, but you are a useless fruit. You can't even potato. I hope you find niggers growing in your garden.

Merry Christmas JS. Oh, forgot, you lot call it: "Happy Holidays" (apologies).

Yes. Avocado and Kiwis have lots of good stuff in them.

"unenviable position of having lost a lot of farming knowledge" false.

https://www.amazon.com/How-Grow-Potatoes-Containers-Inspiring/dp/1537555642
a book on amazon for $9 about potato growing.

Remember when COVID first hit and farmers couldn't sell all those potatoes so they had to throw out tons and tons of potatoes? They don't have problems growing them so obviously the knowledge is not 'lost'.

[ - ] StealthNinjaTaliban 2 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 13:06:55 ago (+2/-0)

Hello there! My trick for potatoes is to grow them in 30 gallon fabric pots. Harvest is effortless and you can mix cheap chicken manure into last year's potting soil.

Ive grown potatoes in leaves before but it was pretty unimpressive.

My new garden idea is that i need to aggressively compost the autumn leaves and the summer grass cutting.

[ - ] NaturalSelectionistWorker 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 07:04:57 ago (+1/-0)

Some of those look good. Do any of them have a better flavor than normal potatoes?

[ - ] paul_neri [op] 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 18:25:39 ago (+1/-0)

Couldn't detect any but then my taste buds aren't too crash hot. The missus said she couldn't tell any difference between my spuds and the store-bought ones but did say they seemed very fresh, as one would expect. I think the appearance of mine was far better. Some of them looked like butter.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 21, 2022 07:07:13 ago (+0/-0)

You should eat all the potatoes at once, to benefit from the natural arsenic content

[ - ] UncleDoug 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 04:56:20 ago (+1/-0)

Unusual lawn you have there neri, what kind of grass is it?

[ - ] paul_neri [op] 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 05:12:30 ago (+1/-0)

Funny you should ask that, UD, because [but first to answer your question: " seems to be a mix of couch and something else"] today I noticed that the native violets had penetrated more of the lawn area, which is fine by me, and I thought of @Cunt and how she wanted native violets in her lawn.

[ - ] UncleDoug 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 05:17:57 ago (+1/-0)

I thought you Americans called it Bermuda grass?

[ - ] paul_neri [op] 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 05:22:11 ago (+1/-0)

"Bermuda grass, better known as Couch grass in Australia, is a warm season grass that is known for its hard-wearing qualities. Native to Africa, it is especially well-suited to Australia, demonstrating excellent performance, and cementing its place as a popular lawn variety for homeowners."[Library Service]

[ - ] paul_neri [op] 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 05:24:40 ago (+1/-0)

I call it "c..t grass" (no offense to the owner of the Aus site). I hate the stuff. It's invasive and tough.

[ - ] Cunt 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 21, 2022 09:52:50 ago (+1/-0)

😔 always trying to bring people down. I couldn't find any native violet seeds or seedlings. I sowed red clover which didn't take. The natural white clover is going mental though. You mentioned it carries the risk of kids stepping on a bee... I might have told you my first did that ages ago and learned the lesson. The second kid somehow got stung on the inner thigh and still wants to pat bees.

You using compost to fertilize?

Better not be chemical fertilizer, or that's a paddlin'.

[ - ] StealthNinjaTaliban 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 13:11:19 ago (+1/-0)

There is nothing wrong with chemical fertilizer dude. You can run it at 25-50% strength if it makes you nervous. I fertigate (liquid fertilizer in the drip lines). Organics don't work with irrigation equipment- everything gets clogged. This season i'll run the Nitrogen at 25% and the PK at 50%.

[ - ] paul_neri [op] 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 04:54:17 ago (+0/-0)

No, only use natural compost (leaf mould/kitchen waste).

[ - ] observation1 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 03:39:46 ago (+1/-0)

I started growing potatoes but then realized they're still extremely inexpensive. Same reason I prefer not to grow tomatoes. Way too much effort to get something that cost nothing at the store.

I'm big on radishes, pumpkin, and bell peppers when season is right. Pumpkin goes toward feeding dogs. (Canned pumpkin is normally a damned fortune.)

There's a healthy community of people who can and jar meats, fruits, and veggies, and will trade. Look for meetups or online groups in your area.

[ - ] paul_neri [op] 2 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 03:49:19 ago (+2/-0)

And that's quite true ("Way too much effort to get something that cost nothing at the store"). But in my case, and I kid you not, I was prepping for WW3. I wanted some food growing to help tide my household of two over the initial panic-buying stage. But another advantage of growing your own is the convenience.

[ - ] observation1 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 03:59:57 ago (+1/-0)

Potatoes are good for you and provide micronutrients that you need to survive, so don't fault you there.

So, that said. Till the soil and try again.

[ - ] chrimony 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 04:35:45 ago (+1/-1)

Well that's pretty retarded. If you were worried about WW3, which is already pretty retarded, your best bet would have been to store packaged food. Aside from the problem of fallout, learning to grow a sustainable amount of food during a nuclear war is a non-starter.

[ - ] paul_neri [op] 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 04:49:05 ago (+0/-0)

Ok and that's quite true and we do have a couple of plastic containers of tinned food. I'm not trying to survive a nuclear war...more to have enough supplies to see us out during the panic buying stage (2-3 weeks?) before things settle down (hopefully). During the fires in Aus and the Pandemic it brought it home to me that when there's a crisis there's a run on the supermarkets.

[ - ] chrimony 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 11:53:47 ago (+1/-0)

That's why if you're serious about being prepped you should always have at least a 2-week supply on hand at all times.

[ - ] herbert_west 2 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 04:24:29 ago (+2/-0)

There is something called the gardening equation. The veggis you plant should provide you with more energy than effort they cost you. You can survive on potatoes if shit hits the fan, but not so on radishes and peppers.

[ - ] observation1 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 12:30:05 ago (+0/-0)

I dont doubt it would be handy in shtf. But, face it - you aren't going to live on potatoes any more than you're going to live on pumpkin and radishes

My equation goes like this.

$3 on bag of potatoes > wasting $100s of time.

Take that $100 saved and use to stock supplies that are more readily important in a shtf situation. For example, water.

[ - ] Gowithit 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 03:34:05 ago (+1/-0)

Right? I also ask for more time every time the world ends.
This is great for a first time! I always bet that those frauds on the facebook gardening groups use miracle grow.

[ - ] paul_neri [op] 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 03:38:23 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah. They grew such long, lovely stalks. I talked to them; flattered them with how green and healthy they looked; all the while dreaming of the nuggets of gold they were producing. It was fun, actually, searching around for the hidden treasure.

[ - ] Gowithit 2 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 03:43:25 ago (+2/-0)

Being nice to them and calling them beautiful did nothing for me. I think next time Im just going to neg my plants. Maybe get better results.

[ - ] GrayDragon 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 12:09:33 ago (+1/-1)

Upvoat for story, but you suck at growing potatoes. Literally nothing one needs to do to grow them.

[ - ] paul_neri [op] 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 18:28:16 ago (+1/-0)

Well that's what I thought too ("Literally nothing one needs to do to grow them") until I tried to grow some on an industrial scale ($90 of seed potatoes).

[ - ] AryanPrime -1 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 03:20:05 ago (+2/-3)

lmfao

kikes can't do anything right, even just growing food LMFAO

this is why you parasite off of the White man

"I've found potatoes don't like heavy wet soil"

You don't say...a food that grows in the ground doesn't like hard to grow in soil and constantly being wet?

oh wow 5 minutes of reading would have informed you of that...you wasted all that work instead of reading for 5 minutes?

You kikes truly are insane people, get out of my America

[ - ] Gowithit 6 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 03:24:03 ago (+7/-1)

Put yours up.

[ - ] AryanPrime -1 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 06:05:43 ago (+0/-1)

"put yours up"

Aww brigading kike got mad when it's fellow kike was laughed at

Sweetheart I have no need or desire to post any "proof" for kike defending filth like you

You are literally giving aid and comfort to a White genocide promoting kike by coming to neri kikes defense

You go in the ground right along with him

[ - ] Gowithit 3 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 06:22:02 ago (+3/-0)

its not defending him its wanting to see what you can make. Youre not new with the "you suck at gardening" and then not even showing what you were able to do or offer useful suggestions.

Sweetheart
Not even upset about that. If Im going to get bitched at I might as well be called something nice.

Im not going to offer advice to kikes , I want you dead

Yeah Yeah got it I already know the script

5 minutes of reading

Some of us are doers. I know I was used to just throwing things on the ground and it would just grow. The soil here (mainland America) sucks. Maybe if you spent more time making sure things werent going to shit around you I wouldnt have crap soil to work with. But nooo its easier to bitch and tear down than build.

Good luck with that.

[ - ] paul_neri [op] 4 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 03:26:59 ago (+4/-0)

Good evening AP. Gimme a break. I've just had the missus sneer: "I told you so". Yes she did tell me so but then I had no choice but to plant the things in the shade and use second-rate soil 'cos she took the best part of the garden (sunny spot) and all the good soil (compost).

[ - ] AryanPrime 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 06:08:49 ago (+1/-1)

"I had no choice"
OY VEY IT WASN'T MY FAULT"

"she took the best part of the garden"
a little hard work and you could have prepped a new spot even without machinery...but kike filth like you can't do anything physical because you are weak inferior untermench.

compost isn't soil faggot...you don't even know basic knowledge about soil management let alone plants lmfao.

No, this isn't your wifes fault weak kike faggot, you arrogantly thought "White men do this how hard can it be" and you lost money HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA

no see, you would have listened to that ugly troll you call a "wife" that's a human term though, you shouldn't use it.

"second rate soil"
Aka the soil under your feet the entire time you've been living there and have done nothing with it but neglect it, now you want to blame it's status as "second rate soil" for your ineptitude and failure, nah...low talent kike exposes it's low talent for "throwing seeds in the ground in the proper place" LMFAO

[ - ] Gowithit 2 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 06:30:55 ago (+2/-0)

Ha! I didnt even see this before I answered you.

"second rate soil" it is though. The heavy metals , microplastics affect things. The soil in the mountains my god that was untouched beautiful black gold. Im not going to get those results where Im at now. Maybe its the nigger in the air but it for sure was NOT my fault the garden wasnt as fruitful as I wanted it to be

[ - ] AryanPrime -1 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 06:58:30 ago (+0/-1)

this wasn't addressed to you kike, this was addressed to the other kike

Maybe stop switching between your alts neri kike and forgetting which one you are posting from

"the heavy metals"

that kike filth like you get people to spray in the air in the first place...whine about causing your own problem some more kike filth.

Oh yea...you also openly state "it sure wasn't my fault the garden wasn't as fruitful as I<<<<keyword wanted it to be

hello kike neri, found your alt

[ - ] Gowithit 1 point 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 10:29:44 ago (+1/-0)

this wasn't addressed to you kike

I didnt even see this before I answered you.
What happened to all of that fancy reading you say you do?

hello kike neri, found your alt

I wish, my potatoes were all leaves and no potato.

...And no something ever being my fault?.. Psht never.

[ - ] paul_neri [op] 0 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 18:32:33 ago (+0/-0)

It seems to me that the crucial (and missing) factor was the sun. Anyway...I'll now have no excuses.

[ - ] GrayDragon 2 points 2.4 yearsDec 20, 2022 12:10:36 ago (+2/-0)

Shut up lunatic.
