Amalgam fillings have been studied to death and the results are mostly fine. It's generally accepted that the amount of mercury given off by your fillings is well below what you take in from environmental sources.
But I had a Russian dentist who convinced me to have mine removed. And in some European countries they are banned.
I can't say I felt a whit of difference afterward so it's hard to say if it was worth the cost and discomfort.

What's worse is when the filling gets drilled (to put in new filling or it cracks etc) it releases way more mercury.
Problem with mercury is also that it builds up in the food chain as no organism can do anything about it.
So the higher up the food chain you go, the more mercury.
By the time you get tuna, it's pretty damn high
