Enjoyment...there's a lot of strategy and intelligence that goes on, and yeah, they're going as fast as they can at the same time. Also, the engineering is fascinating.
That makes sense, although the watching part doesn't do much for me. I used to do insane street racing back when I had a 1970 & 1/2 Z-28 that was bored out 40 over, with all the other goodies. Being confined to a track though. Seems a little too much like second hand excitement. But I could watch speed chess with great interest, or the flow patterns of dye in liquids.
