my guess is a lithium battery. Safe and effective.

Until they invent a windmill that he can carry in my pocket, he's gonna be blowing up laundromats.

That's way too much for a small (cellphone/vape) lithium battery. They simply don't have that much energy in them.

But, that could easily be an ignition source.

A cigarette lighter also doesn't have enough energy in it to create that kind of explosion by itself. That could be an ignition source.

Not even a brick made from a bunch of cellphone batteries would release that much energy at once - even if you made sure to make them all explode at the same time.

Don't get me wrong, that vape pen can fuck your world up if you have it close to your face when the battery decides to fail in a catastrophic manner. Some can release a similar amount of energy as a single firecracker.

As someone else mentioned, dust and an ignition source could be the culprit. Dust bombs are a lot like the Wu Tang Clan - they ain't nothing to fuck with.

Willing to bet its a gas dryer.

Devil's advocate - if the laundry was of someone who works in industry with oils, combustible material could in theory still be in the fabric. Get some oil, gasoline, or another chemical in there and add heat - boom.

Still believe it was a battery in a pocket tumbling in a gas dryer.

Yup. That'd probably do it. That'd certainly be capable of that much force.

Gas dryer?

Literally never heard of that in my entire life.

Efficient for a laundry mat. High fast heat. Less energy use. I have them in my American apartment complex.

you just read a comment about gas dryers and don't know what they are?

In America, you can get stoves and dryers in either electric or natural gas. They're more efficient, especially when larger than "residential use".

I have 4 lighters in my pocket sometime. But I couldn't imagine f9rgetting about having 4 lighters..

Would 4 be enough for that kind of explosion?

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 1 point 2 yearsApr 3, 2023 21:58:19 ago (+1/-0)

While I can't be 100% accurate, I can make some estimations.

I've blown up my share of lighters and I'd have to it'd require a whole lot more than 3 or 4 lighters.

Also, the explosion is different. You can tell by the force and time.

I could (easily) be wrong - but it reminds me of some sort high exploive.

Grain silos will go boom under the right circumstances...

Add a spark, low moisture, correct amount of dust.

[ - ] TheRealBuddha 0 points 2 yearsApr 4, 2023 18:44:33 ago (+0/-0)

Oh, fuck yes. They can literally explode (not just ignite) in a spectacular fashion.

You can make a neat 'dust bomb' with a paint can, a candle, some powdered non-dairy coffee creamer, a length of surgical tubing, and an air pump.

I saw an article that tried to blame this on a cigarette lighter. I laughed. I didn't bother commenting but I did watch the video with greater definition and paid more attention. It blows the door open, there's a slight pause, and then the flames come out.

I'm siding with the folks who remarked that it's probably a gas dryer. That makes the most sense and would explain the delay nicely.

It makes me think of two things...

1. Were there people inside still?

2. Was the laundromat one that's 'unattended' - because they should have smelled the odorant and shut shit down?

Those commercial dryers build up a shit load of lint, which is highly flammable. It could be a combination of that and something else.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified 7 points 2 yearsApr 3, 2023 20:38:30 ago (+7/-0)

Do laundromats ever use gas dryers? That could be part of the "something else".

[ - ] germ22 8 points 2 yearsApr 3, 2023 20:40:53 ago (+8/-0)

Gas dryers are very common for commercial dryers.

This is why suicide vests are strictly "Dry Clean Only".

Quick, don't let that large-sized oven go to waste!

[ - ] Zyklonbeekeeper 1 point 2 yearsApr 4, 2023 00:22:19 ago (+1/-0)

Whatever it was ignited a chain reaction with the lint which was already in a heated stage....grain elevators are also susceptible to explosions caused by dust...then again I don't have a fucking clue.

Got a rocket, in your pocket. Be cool, boy!

Lithium battery, like a vap unit or a bic lighter.
