At the end of the younger dryas there is a huge amount of evidence that cataclysmic flood wiped out most of the megafauna in north America. Africa lost only about 20 percent.

I can believe a flood in some areas could wipe out a sizeable population in the area, but to cause extinction without fucking over the rest of the planets life?

My bet is humans, natural disasters, disease, changing climates, and I'm sure other things I'm forgetting all had a hand in wiping large predatory mammals off the planet.

You think that one natural disaster took out one species group while leaving the rest of life on earth alone.

When we have climate or natural disaster take out life on our planet, the devastation is far worse than one group dying.

The great dying killed off more life than the supposed meteorite that killed the dinosaurs. The great dying is a much better example of how much devastation natural disaster brings.

It affected different areas differently. Check out the scablands in Washington state. They literally keep finding massive amounts mammoth bones massed together that died simultaneously. Alternative historians think a meteor melted the ice caps killed off most of an advanced civilization also. It isn't proven. But there is alot of evidence for it.

I'd imagine it's both, most predators have nasty mouths. There's a thing called "seal thumb" for example which happens a lot to fishermen trying to deal with aggressive sea doggos. If they nip your hand it can end up partially paralysed from all the toxins the bacteria build up.
