It's the standard retarded "this is proof things could last indefinitely" and also draw a shit ton of power for the tiny bit of light it puts out. It's basically a heater that also happens to put out a little bit of visible light.
You do realize that 120 years ago it was a normal glowing light bulb that produced enouugh light that people bothered to put it there and then over the years got weaker but is still functioning unlike "modern" ones that won't do shit after a set amount of hours.

That's exactly the thing. This light bulb is run much lower than the rated specs, making it last longer. I don't think it is as much the "high quality" manufacturing that makes it last so long, compared to the limited stress put on it.
For example, if a 100watt incandescent light bulb has an operating temperature of 300c, and can last 1000 hours at that temperature, in a reduced power setting, if the temperature only gets to 50c, the life will be exponentially longer.
Interesting side-note, people who swear by (normal AC) incandescent lights don't realize they flicker more than high-quality LED bulbs. And if you wanted a DC supply for normal incandescents, you'd be wasting even more energy on heat from the power supply.
You can make a plain old tungsten filament bulb do this by sticking it on a dimmer. One quick trick is to put the lamp in series with a diode, cuts the power by half, reduces the light by a bit more than half, and extends the life by a factor of fifty.
Some brands I've used are garbage, e.g. EarthTronics' EarthBulb. All failed within a year. I guess they mean it literally, you'll be putting them back in the earth.

They're making LED bulbs that are cheap because people don't want to pay $10 a bulb for high quality LEDs and sufficient heat sinking in a fixture that has proper air flow.
Meanwhile that tiny LED that puts out a fraction of a what is running cool and naturally lasts for decades. You can actually do this with LED bulbs by dimming them so that they run cool, you'll just need to have more of them to put out sufficient light.
I use them at home and they are turned on max. 4-5 hours per day inside one of those panels people normally have on the ceiling. Obviously they are overheating.

The bulb was originally installed when power was distributed by DC, Tesla's AC came later. They are still running it on DC, but they have lowered the voltage to extend the life. The color it puts out is due to under-powering it.
I guess I got downvoted for commenting on the bulb above. According to manufacturers of LEDs, the lifespan is over when the gamut of the device has shifted a certain amount. They could last longer, but they no longer look good.
Unfortunately, I read, manufacturer descriptions have not yet been standardized making it difficult for consumers to tell the features/properties of a bulb.
They do burn out when they run hot. One thing that happens in semiconductors at high temperatures is migration of the metals. The atoms literally diffuse.
If every light lasted 120+ years, the light manufacturers would go out of business. You wouldn't want to put all of GE out on the streets would you goy? Thomas Edison was a business man first and an inventor second. He understood the need for repeat business. That's why he invented the electric chair and used it to kill elephants. What do you need an eternal light bulb for anyway? Planning on passing the torch to your grandkids? Oy vey, that's antisemitism.
The stress on the light filament happens during the turning on. Pretty much every incandescent that is of standard quality can do the same if you just leave it on.
Instead, we get Obama's LED garbage. They're generally capable of producing higher luminosity, but a significantly lower quality of light. PWM, as implemented by most companies, is destroying our eyes.
My dad is an engineering/electrical nerd. He makes his own lightbulbs. He’s been using the same bulbs since I was a kid. When he sells a house, he takes his bulbs with him. My friends used to think it was weird that my dad had a laboratory over the garage. Free light bulbs for life, he keeps me supplied. Not sure they’re as energy efficient as LED’s, but they last forever.
"It's time to retire old-fashioned inefficient technologies from the last century. LEDs are the future of lighting. Wasteful throwbacks like this need to removed and updated - forcefully, if necessary (judging by the old white man in the photo)."
It's so simple to write like woketards. You just disengage higher-level thinking and the pretty but stupid sounding words just flow out so easily.

The argument its about that shit shouldn't break 5 hours after the warranty is over and as we see it doesn't have to.
Sure it gets dim over time, and when its too dark for you change the bulb, but you should have the decison.

There are some very old computer parts with still-functioning LEDs.

But in a 15min city there is no need for a car and your sleeping pod only needs a 0.6 Watt light.
So either way all your problems are solved, be happy.
