Obligatory reminder that English is a Germanic language. Because Anglo-Saxons came from Anglia and Saxony. Which are, to this day, areas of Germany. And then they tragically forgot that they are simply Germans who went for a boat ride.

I've heard that Germans made up around 80% of the US population at some point in the 1800s. The biggest newspapers, published books and hymnals ect. were largely written in German until WW1.

Second, I'd love it if we spoke German. It would be wonderful. English is good, but German is such a colorful language!
