Let me tell you an observation I've made about parents.Most parents are naturally protective about their offspring.But there comes a point with some parents where that protectiveness manifests as confected behaviour for the emotional response it induces. Put simply, people enjoy their emotions being aroused. So when they encounter a situation where due to their natural responses, social conditioning (including seeing a similar situation on tv) they feel licensed to behave in a certain way - usually expressing their outrage - they do so behave. Now the problem as I see it is that sometimes that expression of outrage is, in essence, acting and that is undesirable because it's false. Some parents like to act like protective parents and to be seen to act like protective parents (virtue signalling). Some time ago on this site @Cunt said she didn't mind snakes but if they got near her kids they'd be dead.I'm sure she would feel naturally protective of her kids in such a situation but her, in my opinion, need to tell us she was a protective parent was an example of what I see as the virtue-signalling side of parents. Bringing my thesis back to the topic; and so it is with the DQs-reading-at-libraries phenomenon. Possibly there are some parents who feel genuinely worried about the affect of DQs on their kids but imo most of the enraged response by parents is confected because they enjoy getting worked up and sounding off over something.That's people for you.If we want to act like intelligent, rational human beings, then when we find ourselves enraged with our juices exploding we should try and ask ourselves if it's justifiable. If not then we should exercise self-control. Indeed even in cases where our rage, condemnation is justified we should always try and exercise self-control because that's how astronauts are made.

Normally no unless you're at a meeting with Municipal Council officials to complain about poor street drainage causing puddles to form and thereby creating mosquito breeding ponds.

But killing winged insects is not a human behaviour embedded in our folklore surrounded by shibboleths enhanced by Hollywood.

Our protectiveness toward our family is usually natural but sometimes, if not often, it is, usually unwittingly, feigned. For example. My child (if I had one) comes running up to me at the supermarket crying that an employee had told her off. My protective instincts kick in naturally but also, and to a greater extent because the kid is obviously safe, my social conditioning based on tv shows which says this is one of those situations where I can get on my high horses and castigate the store employee for abusing my kid so I storm off and demand to see the Manager.In the Manager's office, with veins popping and eyes blazing, I turn on the hapless employee and scream: "how dare you speak to my child like that!".

Employee:"But Sir your child had lit a fire in aisle 7".

I put it to you, Name, that you feel guilt for bringing children into this world and so you should. Whatever happens to them will be on your conscience!
