Think about why they say mis/disinformation and not lies. It's because it's information warfare and they're both lying. It's misinformation to get information from non official sources because it's countering the official information, not because one is a lie and the other is truth. Truth has no place in propaganda.

Disinformation, they keep using that word.

Big tech companies like Google and Facebook parent Meta will have to police their platforms more strictly to better protect European users from hate speech, disinformation and other harmful online content under landmark EU legislation approved early Saturday.

The need to regulate Big Tech more effectively came into sharper focus after the 2016 U.S. presidential election, when Russia used social media platforms to try to influence voters. Tech companies like Facebook and Twitter promised to crack down on disinformation, but the problems have only worsened. During the pandemic, health misinformation blossomed and again the companies were slow to act, cracking down after years of a llowing anti-vaccine falsehoods to thrive on their platforms.

EU official says Twitter abandons bloc’s voluntary pact against disinformation

Breton said that under the new digital rules that incorporate the code of practice, fighting disinformation will become a “legal obligation.”

Legally obligated voluntary

It's a nonsense policy. The only difference between misinformation and disinformation is intent. "Disinformation" in and of itself is a loaded word (go figure). There is no practical way to determine if someone stating inaccurate information is intentionally lying or simply wrong.

Yet another enforcement policy that depends entirely on the perception and personal biases of the person judging it. It will just be abused.
