Many years ago I purchased a safety razor around Christmas. Cutting with a single, decent blade is vastly superior and cheaper. I determined it was the best thing I bought all year. I wanted to get a straight razor, but my barber talked me out of it.

I tried a straight razor maybe a dozen times. It is more trouble than it is worth. Easier to get a shavette and skip the whole strop/sharpening deal. Personally I've settled on a Rex Konsul Slant (adjustable), Voskhod blades, and a Nivea Body shave stick. Can't beat it.

I found them by looking at a website where some dude did sharpness tests using a scale and a piece of string across various brands. It may have been this one: https://www.bayviewinformer.com/double_edge_safety_razor_blades.html

per graph, on 2nd shave voskhod performs better than feather. likely because feather doesn't have the coating but focuses on a sharp edge which wears down fast

Also like polsilver, but voskhod felt a bit better for me. Lord, Asco, Big Ben are all ok also.

Shark, Rockwell, Derby, Persona, Wilkinsons are shit for me.

Usually do 2 or 3 shaves with my blades.

These days it tends to be. Having a beard, or not having a beard, has always a statement. When having one is common among men, it sends a statement, and people see it as effeminate. When it's uncommon, it's sometimes seen as a statement of age, maturity, or family status as a patriarch. These days, it's nothing more than an affectation or a style, intended to show off one's ability to grow a beard and the desire to have people admire it.

I'm decades older than many people here, and I started growing a beard when I was 19 because I fucking hated shaving. My statement with it is that I don't give a fuck about what people think about it because I'm man enough to be secure with myself.

Exactly. I don't know how many of these 35 year old man-children I see. All followers, all insecure, all play video games everyday and talk about it all the time. All of them have excessive tattoo's yet none have seen any action or done anything that warrants a tattoo. Completely self absorbed and raised by single mothers. It's laughable.
