I like the idea of separating the controller part and having spares for that. Rather than like hard-wiring in a single one with no ability to replace it if it fails.

My guess is the controller doesn't have anything to do with this.

Things like this should really have manually operable systems and/or redundancy in electrical systems. But just going "up" should be doable by hand.
