I wouldn’t get in ANY submarine.

I want to go in whichever one James Cameron did so many trips in.

If I were rich I'd buy my own damn submarine.

With hookers and blackjack!

The rig needed to do what that thing was trying to do costs in the tens of millions. That's why the tickets are $250K.

That paki dude dropped a half a million for a day trip that killed him and his son. He could have bought his own submarine and be alive. I'm not even saying I'd buy a sub capable of a trip to the Titanic. A regular old sub would be pretty fun.

A half million would get you a sub that would kill you 200 ft down.

[ - ] TheViciousMrPim 3 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 11:09:36 ago (+3/-0)

I didn't mean to suggest he spend a half mil on a sub. But that if you can drop that much for a day trip, you could spend ten million on a decent toy sub. You could do a lot of fun tooling around in the ocean, maybe not to the Titanic depths, but I'm not that hung up on seeing that. And then later you can sell the sub again and recoup at least some of it.

All of that sounds much better than what he did.

So you think if you can spend $500k doing something extremely few people have ever done, then you can afford a $10M business venture? That doesn't even make sense.

I'd drop $100K for a spaceX flight. Doesn't mean I want to build a rocket ship.

Go down 2 miles to look at the wreck on a screen. You could do that on your couch for free.

If I were in that 19 year old kid's shoes, doing it for his father for father's day and not knowing any of the info that has come out, probably.

Have heard that the kid was absolutely terrified of going on the sub, and begged & pleaded with his father not to go; but papa insisted that, if the kid loved him, he’d go on the trip down for father’s day, as well as to make a man out of him. So, that utterly sucks dogs’ balls.

Cannot imagine what horror he was experiencing.

Sad.

::: ::: :::

Come to think of it, that may have been the reason for the trip:

The submersible had not gone down in many months, owing to the objections of the men who had been fired for raising safety concerns, and to be replaced with yay sayers. But the strong currents because of which the sub had been grounded, were no better.

Apart from the owner & the father & the son, the occupants were an explorer/adventurer & an explorer/submariner, whose fees may have been fronted by the father, as well as extra pay to convince them to go down into the abyss; which proved to be their grave, rather than the intended proof that it was safe.

Sad, ironic, and possibly sick.

When I was traveling through the desert in Peru I passed by Nazca. I had the opportunity to stop there and get into one of the planes to see the lines. But the planes were old so I said fuck that. You can imagine what I think about getting into a claustrophobic submarine under water where any incident can mean certain death. I once went inside one but it was more like museum kind of thing on the surface. I will never go underwater on a submarine.

Fuck You

The diversity engineers behind Titan didn't understand how ballast works. If you need to surface to have someone unbolt your ballast, you no longer need to dump ballast.

[ - ] FreeinTX 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 09:09:36 ago (+1/-0)

No. But I would get on a spaceX flight.

It's okay to die doing what you love.

How many successful trips had it had already?

[ - ] PrincessRobotBubblegum 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 08:30:10 ago (+2/-0)

Nobody has ever been specific.

The submersible was a prototype, originally intended for a single use.

Have heard many numbers, from six to ten to “more than 24,” which seems curiously specific.

The billionaire may have been intending to become an investor.

The whole thing stinks like yesterday’s diapers.

I thought they were calling it Mission #7 or sum shit.

if you can dent it at 100 yards I'll pass

I would have been interested in the idea for sure. But after doing proper research (as one should for something you're gonna drop $250k on) and finding out how janky the thing was, I would have cancelled and told everyone why.

But that's if it were a dive to someplace OTHER than a mass grave, because playing tourist there just seems wrong to me.

This is a low IQ post, as usual.
