Wasn't quite that hot, but I did the drenched in sweat at 8 am thing too, and found it dislikable. I moved to a reasonable climate the year after 22 straight days of under 10F. Two unbearable seasons is two too many. Average annual range here is 46 to 76. Summer nights in the 50s due to the Pacific being around 53F. I've never had an AC in my house.
Normally, individual circuits can't be accessed outside of your breaker box. Your unit is probably going bad, or there's something screwy in your electrical system. Does it overheat, then start working again after it 'cools' down?
