These things were never designed to be viable. They're just PR bullshit to make normies think the oil companies are actually trying to drive themselves out of business. You could build working wind generators but they aren't looking anything like that.

And this is the reason right here, that unlike you, your kids will learn common core and "do whatever you feel like" math, less they will be able to solve for X like you did.

I think the intended point is that they generate less pollution over their entire lifetime than burning coal?

[ - ] HeavyBrain 0 points 1.9 yearsJul 20, 2023 07:54:54 ago (+0/-0)

Nuclear. pollution reduction is off the charts.

And you also ruin the view as well as the quality of life for anyone who lives near there and hears their constant noise.

Even worse, micro vibrations, you dont hear, but which have an effect on your body.

[ - ] Rowdybme 2 points 1.9 yearsJul 20, 2023 05:06:46 ago (+2/-0)

They do. But not for a while.

[ - ] albatrosv15 2 points 1.9 yearsJul 20, 2023 03:28:10 ago (+2/-0)

Do we have any numbers to back it up?

[ - ] DivineLight2 2 points 1.9 yearsJul 20, 2023 05:12:54 ago (+2/-0)

I looked into it ages ago, if well placed it takes on a average 20 years to recoup cost including maintenance.
If poorly placed, they may never recoup it.

Okay, i will trust Divine Light then. Version 2 too, better than 1.

Ah, just like opening a franchise. Location is key!

These things cost $15,000,000 each.
People with millions of dollars are known for their poor financial investment skills. /s

They are paid for with government money. Governments are known for their amazing financial acumen. /s

Subsidies are tax write offs.
What you are saying is, windmills would be profitable if the government got rid of taxes.
I agree.
Get your shit straight. Every second you waste arguing about windmills prevents you from arguing against taxes.

You don't have a problem with windmills. You have a problem with grabblers eating into profits.

Oh, and BTW, the correct response to this is "Oh, fuck, that's 100% correct!"

[ - ] TheYiddler 1 point 1.9 yearsJul 20, 2023 23:18:20 ago (+1/-0)

First off, that's a shitty attitude. Secondly windmills are not profitable. Way cheaper and more reliable to get the power from coal.

Unsubsidized
That's what you said.

Often "subsidies" are straight cash.
100% this is something you heard somewhere, but can't find a paper trail to substantiate.

The subsidies are tax write offs.

Don't forget the maintenance or such a large distributed infrastructure. They also only last for 20 years and aren't recyclable.

"net positive energy" from recycling blades.... smell fishy.

[ - ] HeavyBrain 2 points 1.9 yearsJul 20, 2023 07:52:23 ago (+2/-0)

Well if we redefine recycling as "left to rot in the field for 80000 years polluting the ground water, the old oil from my truck is also recyclable.

(Nuke wast in their seald salt mines are the greenest shit ever.)

How much oil do those fucker need each month like 6 tons?

[ - ] fritz_maurentod 0 points 1.9 yearsJul 20, 2023 09:39:28 ago (+0/-0)

I know they need oil changes like the car engines. Even funnier, the ones that are offshore have to keep rotating in order to avoid rusting. They use a diesel engine for that all day long until there is enough wind again.

How the hell did a blade catch on fire?

[ - ] Prairie 0 points 1.9 yearsJul 20, 2023 08:48:16 ago (+0/-0)

Lightning? It sure burned the thing down fast, though.

[ - ] NeonGreen 0 points 1.9 yearsJul 20, 2023 01:59:33 ago (+0/-0)

How could we make wind work? Got to be some way. Aren't these designs still from the 60's?

[ - ] Prairie 5 points 1.9 yearsJul 20, 2023 02:37:58 ago (+5/-0)

How could it not work? It's a wind FARM. You just need to give it time and wind will grow so we can harvest the tornadoes that grow.

[ - ] Her0n 1 point 1.9 yearsJul 20, 2023 02:02:32 ago (+1/-0)

Sailboats, that's about it.

Cloth windmills might beat a cost effective analysis, but it can't deal with strong winds at all.

These money pits have an on-going maintenance fee.
